Creative Essay Writing
|
The mind is an incredibly complex, yet astonishing tool capable of crafting beautiful pieces of art. Whether it be creative written pieces, lyrics, or poems, the creativity that flows from an intrigued mind crafts work that not only has a deep meaning, but also a profound impact on the audiences it amazes. Throughout my high school career, I have had the pleasure of being mentored under a group of phenomenal english teachers that have not only developed my writing skills, but have also cultivated and amplified my passion as a composer of written emotion. I have written many pieces that have been given fantastic marks, but more so have impressed myself and made me proud of my ability to create. On the left is an essay I wrote in Grade 12 English class regarding the overall meaning of Hamlet. It was given a mark of 100%, and is an excellent representation of my talents as a writer.

Intertextuality in a Photo Essay
The ability to convey a message through the amalgamation of iconic and impactful photos is a gift that allows one to use intertextuality to its finest. This photo essay portrays the messages of non-conformity and indifference, and was created in image of the short story “The Flash”, by Italo Calvino. As you can see, the theme is written on the bottom left corner, however using the images presented, I was able to depict a powerful message without words, only powerful pictures. Ellie Wiesel states “Indifference is humanity's greatest enemy” for it signals the destruction of hope and care for justice. One must stand up for his beliefs, and not conform to the wrongful ways of the oppressors within society.

Building a Website
It has been said that with the turn of the 21st century, the world has transitioned from the Industrial Age into the Information Age. This revolutionary new world has made it imperative that all humans have a basic understanding of how to operate various forms of technology and create a functioning web site. In Grade 12 Communications Technology, I was taught how to build a website from scratch using Hypertext Markup Language and Cascading Style Sheets. By looking to the left, you will see a website I created that informs one on what I learned in Communications Technology. Through searching, you will see that I understand how to use many different programs, including Adobe Photoshop and App Inventor. Perhaps my favourite project was the Face Manipulation, where I used Adobe Photoshop and different celebrity pictures to effectively create a whole new person. I have been coding with HTML and CSS since Grade 9, therefore I have a wide range of tools to tackle any task that deals with constructing a professional web site.

Crafting a Presentation
The ability to present information and a convincing argument in front of a crowd is very difficult but crucial. To the right, you can view one of the presentations that I helped to create in Grade 12 regarding the Rockefeller family. By clicking on the button below, you can download my entire presentation. I believe I am not only effective at creating a captivating and informative presentation, but also at executing the presentation itself. In today’s collaborative world, this ability will prove to be very useful, and I understand that although I feel comfortable talking in front of audiences, there is always room for improvement!

Microbial Fuel Cell
|
Along with my partner Christian Cossidente, for our Grade 12 Chemistry ISU we decided to create a microbial fuel cell. This experiment studied a new and innovative branch of green chemistry, which involved the creation of a mediator-less microbial fuel cell in order to find an alternative method to creating electricity, a renewable and clean energy source, and creating clean drinking water in the process. A mediator-less microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a bioelectrical chemical system that converts chemical energy accumulated in the bonds of organic compounds into electrical energy through reductive oxidation reactions along with the use of organic and electrochemically active bacteria within an anaerobic environment.
|
In this environment, through replicating natural bacterial metabolism, the bacteria present within the studied benthic mud and topsoil sample undergo cellular respiration, in an overall exothermic reaction (releasing energy). Through cellular respiration, moving electrons (H- ) become present; the group plans to harvest these electrons while cleaning out the mud-water sample in the process. If you would like to see the building process and final product, watch the time lapse video above.
Financial Issues
Undoubtedly my favourite class, Financial Markets opened my eyes to the word of business. From valuing stocks, bonds, and companies to learning about how various types of investment funds work, I had never learned so much about what I have been most interested in. This class was the main reason that led me to choose to specialize in finance during my last three years at Rotman Commerce. The video to the right is a short video where I was challenged to apply my knowledge about global markets to explain why a certain stock's price changed the way that it did. I chose Freeport McMoran, one of the largest mining companies in the world. I did very well on this project, attaining a 95%!
