CHAMUN
|
Entitled “CHAMUN”, Chaminade Modelled United Nations is a club at Chaminade College School which focuses on debating and critically thinking upon current and pressing world issues. I have been an active member since Grade Nine, and in Grade 12 I was honoured with the prestigious role as Secretary General of CHAMUN. As Secretary General, one is the leader of the team, and must ensure collaboration between all group members. Every year, the club coordinates their own Modelled UN at the North York Civics Centre. My Journey With CHAMUN
Over the past four years at Chaminade College School, I have been an active member of the school’s Model United Nations Team, entitled CHAMUN. Since Grade Nine, I have debated on pressing issues and world politics. At SSUNS, Canada’s largest high school symposium and hosted by McGill University, I was awarded the McGill SSUNS Book Award for my ability to represent my positions, engage in debate in the resolution of global issues, and for resolving world issues about various topics from across Canada and the United States. In June of the following year, I was recognized by the TCDSB for my remarkable achievement.
For the past two years, I have been on CHAMUN’s executive committee, and currently I am holding the position of Secretary General at CHAMUN. This initiative is driven to help students learn about global issues and communicate with each other in various ways. Along with my team, I headed the planning of Chaminade’s own delegation, which was held in early 2016, and is hosted over 200 students from across Toronto. It is through CHAMUN where I have reinforced my leadership abilities to effectively delegate, communicate, and think intuitively when in time sensitive situations. |
